NFC

What is NFC and how does it work?

NFC is a relatively new technology.
Allowing a small chip to be read by most modern phones we can pass a website address to your phone.

uBoof use these small chips on our NFC enabled cards. Simply tap the top of your phone (a lot like Apple Pay and Google Pay) against a NFC enabled uBoof card and a small notification will appear, by tapping it you or your guests will follow the link to your recorded page.

Why is this better than QR codes?

We think it’s pretty cool. As the technology becomes cheaper and more widely used we will look to remove QR codes altogether, giving you more space on on your cards for printing text and images.

NFC is currently supported by all the latest models of iPhone & Android handsets (amongst others) but some older models of smartphone don’t have the tech built in, thus we still support QR codes.

It is quite expensive, isn’t it?

Yep! It upsets us too as we love a gadget! We actually don’t charge anything extra than what it costs us to enable our uBoof cards for NFC. However, as it becomes more widely used, it should come down in price.

I’m on Android and I can’t scan a QR code!

Don’t worry, it’s as easy as 1,2,3
(we explain it on the back of the uBoof cards too)

1 – Open Camera and click: More

2 – Click: Settings
3 – Activate: Google Lens suggestions

If your phone is running older software, there are plenty of QR code scanner apps on the
App Store and the Google Play Store.
